RAFT was, established in response to the refugee crisis in Calais which was highlighted by the media in the summer of 2015. However, this wasn’t the only place that received aid as we sourced appropriate destinations for any aid that wasn’t able to meet the specific requirements that Calais needed. This has become incredibly important to the heart of RAFT and we support lots of different projects and organisations by distributing the donated aid that cannot be sent to Syria/ Greece or the refugees that we seek to help over all. We send aid to Africa, the Ukraine, Romania and if course, we help our local community and elsewhere within the UK. This also means that we try not to send anything to landfill and recycling is also a big part of what we try to do. Our dedicated ‘Mend to Send’ team re-use the torn items of clothing we sometimes get in order to fashion practical items that can be sent.
We support our local homeless projects as much as possible too. Need is need and if we can help, we will do our best to.
